![]() Not the recommended way to do it, but at that point it was that or pull the head again. Ended up heating it up and driving it on as quickly as possible. Pulled everything off the front, and replaced the plate, but the cam gear is a press fit and there's no thread in the end of the camshaft to pull it back on with. Overhauled (in-frame ) the engine and not long after we got water in the oil. If you pressurize the cooling system and drop the pan, you should be able to see it coming down from up front. If you can't find it somewhere else, take the water pump off and look at the surface behind the impeller. We have a 94 Dt466 that corroded through the aluminum front timing gear case plate behind the water pump. I would drain water out and oil if u ran it then put new oil in then run a little with new oil in if u r not going to fix right away so the antifreeze don't ruin anything else but only necessary if u ran the truck with antifreeze in the oil. Do not use with the water and antifreeze in oil. Then u will know exactly which cylinder is leaking or cooler but my bet is it is a sleeve or o ring on sleeve. ![]() Posted 07:55 (#3762670 - in reply to #3762363) Subject: RE: DT466 with antifreeze in oilĭrop the pan and pressurize your radiator. We give it a check every morning to be sure and it's always been oil. Just to be 'safe' we installed a quarter turn oil drain valve on the pan. Ran it all last fall not a drop of water. Pulled the pan couldn't find any liner leaks, even when the radiator was pressured. Son's Steiger put water in the oil last winter. George, I am afraid its time for a overhaul, you have a liner issue, Scott. An o - ring groove probably got pitted up and isn't sealing anymore. Hope that would be the case but 90% of the time it is a pitted cylinder liner. It could be oil cooler leaking, the easy way to check is pull oil filters and pressurized radiator and if cooler is leaking coolant will come through oil gallery and into oil filter base. ![]() Got bitten by that on a Cummins a few years ago. Only sure way is to pressure check the cooler. After you start using it, the oil will go into coolant. ![]() If the leak occurs when the machine has been sitting, the coolant may leak into the oil. IIRC when oil cooler is bad then it puts oil in radiator (cooling system ) Cold leak, may not leak when it's warmed up, got to be fixed just the same. My guess it's a liner packing/O-ring leaking or pitted liner. Mine was an internally ruptured oil cooler mounted on the right side of the block. What is the most likely source of such a large amount of antifreeze. It has been parked all winter and when I went to start it there was a major amount of antifreeze in the oil. I bought a 1991 IH tandem grain truck last fall with a DT466 engine. Posted 23:39 (#3762363) Subject: DT466 with antifreeze in oil
